Heat Question 85 300D

Heat is warm and nice. Last couple times I drove the car on the MAX setting heat is warm then goes cool. If I push the defrost button the heat is warm again.

Mono Valve or Flapper door inside the dash or ???

... defrost setting returns heat, and it stays hot?
if so, it's gotta be in the push button unit.
if the defrost also fades heat, then it's the monovalve.
