Considering buying a wagon

I need to get a wagon so that I could have more space. I am looking around for an 87 wagon with the 603. I have never driven one of these vehicles. How quit or loud are they. I just sold my w123 and it was a bit loud on the highway. My dads w126 with the 603 is much quieter and much more confortable.

I am wondering how the wagon compares to teh w126 in ride comfort.

Also has anyone tried to swap the seat from a w126 to a w124.

with the 603 motors in the w124 are there any problems concerning the head? how can I tell if it is the old head that cracks.

Have you tried a 124 seat? Definitely nowhere near a 123 seat.

no. Have never driven a w124. I would like something a bit more comfortable than my old w123. I love the seats in my dads w126.

How is the ride on the highway.

depends on the condition of the vehicle's suspension.
I LOVE my 124's
same seats as the SDL's in my opinion.

How are you going about looking? the CL alert thread up top places them often. also, the cars for sale section comes up with them sometimes. forget Ebay... unless you have a 10-15K sitting around.
you can also do a site search with google, of all craigslist.org pages... keywords are key here...

If you haven't read up about the Self-Leveling-System have a read through this.
http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=271570
It's a great system, but can be expensive to replace parts. The above thread is written for a w123, but all the MB SLS systems work basically the same, and have the same types of parts more or less. So functionally the SLS in a 124 wagon and 123 wagon are the same.

Upper 20s is normal for me with normal driving, I have a bit of a lead-foot. Others do better.

Sound level in the cabin is very low, most people don't know it's a diesel from inside (and many even from outside). Ride is excellent, but only if the suspension is in good condition, and the seats can be worn out at this point, so sit in them to see. I like to buy mine from small women, ... seats hold up better, or just repair the seat.

Here is a whole thread about 124 diesel wagon mileage I started a few weeks back. Most folks seem to get in the mid to upper 20s. Pretty much the same as the 123 wagons.

How much are you ready to spend on the top-side purchase price?

for the right car I would spend up to 4k. I do not mind if the car needs some work where I could get a better price.
