Small hole turns into Exhaust detailing

I have had a small hole in my exhaust manifold for a while now that was making noise. I finally found a whole exhaust manifold assembly with turbo at the junkyard for a $100

I decided to bolt the whole thing on since I had a bent fin on my turbo wheel and the new/used one doesn't have much play.

I couldn't just bolt in the ugly thing, so I took part of the day yesterday day to partially disassemble, clean, wire brush, sand, brake cleaner, bench wire wheel, and paint up the new one. While the cad-plating is gone I think it turned out pretty nice. I went with an accent color of black for the waste gate shield.

I also clear coated the bare metal with high temp spray to keep it from rusting/oxidizing. The flat grey is HIGH temp manifold paint.

.....Now I have to clean the entire engine bay to match it

Here is a side-by-side of the old one and fresh "new" one. The old one was in worse shape, but the newer one was just as oily and somewhat rusty.

wow wee wow wow.

That looks brand new. Seriously, I looked at the pics first and thought, "Wow, this dude went and bought an entire new turbo setup. WTF."

Anyhow, great job. Also, I just found out that those clamps on the accordion piece behind the turbo are $110/ea @ the dealer. Only 26 still left worldwide and all are in Germany... Clean those bad boys up and hang on to 'em!

Nicely done! Same here, thought it was new.

I wonder if mine has an exhaust leak?

Indeed and then add your engine bay to the show your engine bay thread.

Thanks! At least there's a place where others can appreciate it....my wife sure doesn't .

I tried to repair the hole a couple times with the super high temp exhaust repair, but it just blew it right out.

I don't think the rest of the engine bay will ever look that good, but I'm doing one area at a time. When I remove something I clean and restore it the best possible. I'll post some more pics later this week.....if it warms up again...
