More Newbie Questions

Hi, I've strolled through thearchives a few times now and I have two questions.
1. When did the 300TD go from a 123 chassis to a 124?
2.I read in one post that the diesels got more "electronic" at one point. What year would that be and how problamatic is this?
I'm looking at an '84 300TD and any little tips are always appreciated.
