Question 300D tranny incident

in the dead of winter i drove my 87 300D about 80 highway miles to a friends place.tranny was as always.I left an hour later and it shifted from first to second then no third,it was like hitting neutral.it slowed down then second kiked in and pic up a little speed to nothing again.went bac to his place and chec fluid.color and level good, smelled good also.reverse was good.left car there till 10 days ago and picked up with flat bed.i have a tranny so i started it to put in garage and decided to go up my street.it worked fine .all normal.ive driven it daily since,,about 1500 miles no problems.i touched nothing to repair it.what happened?should i change tranny anyway?

Run it with your foot to the wood so that it will shift at high RPMS, I bet it'll start happening again after that.

... which is an indication that the filter is getting plugged with friction silt, and it tends to settle in the bottom after parked for a while.
