84 190D timing cover?
I am putting my timing cover on tonight and I have a question, in the pictures you see a oil passage. Do I put the sealent around the whole circle or just around the outside? The other picture is the inside of the timing cover and where the oil passage is, is some oil suppost to come out there ?

So you are saying put sealent all around the oil passage? Why would they leave the oil passage open like that unless they wanted some oil to come out?

Bumpity,Bump,Bump
'Allo ?
Although the "You Know Whatsis" shows the "Oil Passage" in Question has something that looks like a Baseball in it? [engineering drawing techs in Stuttgart " 'Aving a Laff" at our expense?] (Just to the right of the number 10 orifice that has the Ball Bearing sealing the block oil through passage.)

Yep that is the hole, seal it all the way around? or just seal the side that would let oil come into the timing chain area? |

Unknown Lube Orifice inside Timing Cover...
That's connected to the Starboard side Main Oil gallery.
I'm Awaiting the definitive answer from D.M. although if MBDoc or any of the Other Professional Experts can explain... BUT, answering your question above: That MYSTERY orifice IS almost directly above the Timing/Oil Pump Chains... AND youse can't NEVER have TOO MUCH OIL ON THE CHAINS!

If you look at the drawing
That passage is at about a 45 Degree angle to the Main Oil gallery, and must
have been put there for some specific purpose. Would not the FSM's Cartographers have demanded We Seal that Orifice if it needed to be??? ("Belay" that thought...It was logic based.)

I suspect
That the Clearance between the Timing Cover "Boss" that matches the Orifice
in the Block is EXACTLY calibrated to release the desired oil flow onto the Chains

I put the t.c. on just to see what it looks like and I can see down in there, there is no little space between the block and the cover. They are tight against each other, so Im thinking seal around the whole thing. Does anybody know how the timing chain gets oil?
