What is leaking? (300D, Pics)
I have a leak of some type, discovered it tonight taking the front license plate off of the car. The fluid is the color of olive oil with a hint of green in it (a yellowish green). I use Orange coolant fyi.
It seems to be coming out of the compressor, I couldn't find a leak above the compressor. It doesn't really have a strong smell either. Pics are from the driver side of the car. Pointing to where it seems to be coming from: |

Looks to be from the A/C. Maybe a seal/o-ring going bad. How's the A/C working? you might be able to tighten the bolt that holds the manifold.

A/C is running cold, I'll tighten them up and see if that stops it.

If it is tight then it may need new o-rings.
Is it running r12 or r134?

It could be the "O" rings between the shell and the housing. They may be worth replacing if the compressor is in good shape. I replaced the original compressor on my '83 for that reason. When I opened it up, it was like brand new inside. I replaced the "O" rings (McMaster-Carr), and kept it as a spare. The replacement compressor sweats a little, but I haven't had to add any refrigerant in 4 years.

Look up my thread on installing the R-4 compressor. There are several thicknesses of "sealing washer" that may go in there if it's a new compressor. Black or yellow or green.
Or if it's the old style with no kidding O-rings look up funola's "rebuilding an R-4 compressor." There should be a link to a pdf that describes the specific cross section of that O-ring. It's not round and there's a part number at Autozone for it. |
