Those "garbage bag" tests kill me. I thought the only true test of "blow by" was a compression test. What needs to be developed is a time to inflate/ size of bag/ rpm/ temperature (eng. and OAT) standard! I believe ending pressure inside the bag might have to be part of it as well.

Compression test is not a test of blowby...
MB has a tool/gauge to measure blowby ...
but none of us have seen it or can afford to buy it..
LOL

There's a damn good redneck diagnostic procedure there. Don't need no stinkin tool.

At most get togethers... people line up their cars and take a picture of them..
we need a picture of them with the hoods up and 40 gallon black garbage bags inflated under the hood.....to show newbies how to do it.

Actually the "bag test" test is not as far off as you may think.

When I was a Respiratory Therapy Student one of the ways used in one Hospital to check the Exhaled Volume from an Intermittent Positive Pressure Breathing Machine was to hook a Plastic Bag that had liter graduations on it to the machine outlet and leave it there for X amount of time and see how much volume went into the bag.

I know that if I occlude the Crankcase Breather tubing it takes about 7 seconds before my Enigne starts to stumble and try to die.

I think the main issues with blow by is what your options are if you believe you have too much.
Most say as long as it starts and runs OK keep driving it.

Ok, I will play this game again...

"I know that if I occlude the Crankcase Breather tubing it takes about 7 seconds before my Enigne starts to stumble and try to die."

Tell me what that means.
What does it tell you about your engine ?
On your med example .. you had knowledge of what something SHOULD be....and a calibrated test... with your engine you do not.

Well, he is in medicine. They get to bill for the test whether it's useful or not. ;)
