85 300SD -lost all forward gears in the trans

Im bummed ,just finished getting this car back together and last night on my drive home I lost all forward gears .The reverse was usfully on getting it on the trailer my neighbor had brought over but it seems its due for a rebuild . Could this be any another problem other than internal?

May be the B2 piston which is a external repair. Plenty of information on this site.

How about the obvious? Fluid level - cable adjustment - shifter etc etc

I believe reverse with no forward is the symptom of a B2 failure.

What a nice backup system (pun) that is...
allowing you to back up onto a trailer in order to go home....
Not all car manufacturers think that far ahead....

Thumbs up

Working reverse is good... means it is not the pump as you have hydraulic pressure.

Thanks to all, great news that I get to do a DIY project I've never actually completed before.
The night of the breakdown I was almost considering driving it home in reverse, 2 miles from home and coming back at 3 am with no traffic ,then I thought better of it.
The first try up the trailer in reverse I got her stuck on the floor board trying to make it up the ramps.
We had to release the trailer off the truck to raise the trailer up then go running after the car as it exited the trailer rolling down the parking lot, Longer ramps became our savior.
I've brought his car back from the grave due to a front end collision it had 2 yrs ago.
Upon buying it I already had a list of add ons for the car (euro bumpers, euro lights, sec front bumper, and a fresh set of new tires) "Isn't she sweet" came to mind after bolting everything up and waxing and washing the old forgotten lux mobile.
Just a bit more time and she'll be back in driving form .
I'm A #1 fan of the 300SD and cant wait to find another abandoned project waiting in the weeds.
