anyone with a W123 5spd in the US?

I need a favor. If I send you the money can you order a 5 spd crossmember for me at the MB dealer. They will not accept an order for a euro model part unless the person has a valid US registration of the euro model. I need a 5 speed cross member. I could make one, but I do not have the measurements and I dont want to get it "close" and have vibration issues. The part is going to cost around $50. I will send cash first.

for this amount of trouble you should just make one. I made one out of two auto cross members for my 240 5-speed project, total cost was like 10 bucks or something. I seriously doubt you would have the slightest vibration issues with a modified cross member, remember, the standard auto cross members have long slots for mount placement, there is wiggle room designed in.
All I did on mine was extend the slots another 1.5 inches or so with a little hammering, welding, and grinding.

As long as your cross member has the slots under the mount tab on the back of the transmission and bolts into the 4 (or 2 holes if you modify a 240 manual mount) of the tunnel, you are done.

All you need to do is make sure the rubber mount stands up straight between the tranny and the cross member, unless the whole thing is totally loose or the mount is bad, I can't imagine any source of vibration.

Im not so much worried about front to back as height.

the problem is the 5 spd puts the tranny back too far for anything to reach. I think the 5spd needs to use the 4 rear most holes. the width gets much larger back there so I would need to add width and length.

I am perfectly capable of making a mount from scratch, I just dont have the required dimensions to work to. I had vibes in my 4 spd, I dont want them anymore.

BTW, I have several 4spd 240D cross members if you want one.

vibes should not come from the crossmember, only from drive imbalances. flywheel, driveshaft etc...

On the coupe with the 4spd I reduced my vibes by adding washers under the 240D Auto cross member, for me it was absoluteley a height issue. If I am 100% sure the cross is correct it will allow me to confidently look elsewhere for the issue

Im pretty sure its not the driveshaft as the vibes are not speed related but gear and RPM dependent

now I have a different engine, new motor mounts, a 300D flywheel and a new transmission. Im hopefully optomistic it will be OK. I did not match balance the flywheel but I did have it neutral balanced. If it seems like an issue later Ill yank it out and get it matched to the new engine flex plate. I want to make sure the new engine os OK first before I go drilling my 300D flywheel

Hmmmm....
angle could affect the angle of the center drive ujoint... but I don't see how position could alter it. possibly motor mount angle could be changed, and if the mounts are weak or the mount shock is dead, vibrations could be transmitted easier into the frame...

Thats the part # they gave me for my car, 85 Euro 300TD, Euro 5 spd.

Rusty at BuyMBparts, Inc. They cant deal with my address at the parts dept here

I take it the dealer where you are needs a Euro 300D vin# in order to find the cross member? Where did you get the $50 price?
