1984 300TD

Someone pointed me to this wagon online, it is for sale but with the following below. How much does it cost for a transmission rebuild for these cars? I am having absolutely no luck with the cars I've been to see, starting to lose hope.

Up for sale we have a 1984 Mercedes 300TD WagonRuns great
Runs good but trans feel like it slips at times into first
Your best bet is to come in and take a look and a test drive.
Has 196,911
Equipped with an automatic transmission

To see what it would cost for a Rebuilt Transmission you need to call some shops in you local area and ask. Better to get one local incase you have a warranty.

With the transmission it is hard to tell if is something that can be fixed or something is so worn it is beyond a simple fix or adjustment.
My first gear started acting like is was slipping. I changed the Fluid and Filter and the problem seemed to go away.
I drove for not quite a year and lost first gear completely. The B2 Piston that is part of which sqeezes the band in Broke in pieces.
I was able to replace that an am on the road.
Others have had the end of the B2 Band Crack off.

Thanks

I am going to call the owner and get more information. I drove 100 miles to see an 82 wagon yesterday. It wasn't as advertised. This is about the same length drive...but I'm going to get pics and talk on the phone before driving again. The 82 wagon didn't want to start up, had a little puddle of oil in the air filter and it just went downhill from there.

Puddles of oil inthe air filter are common since the oil separator is in there. No start could be as simple as one bad glowplug. Could candidates for purchase if you can do a reliable diagnosis while looking at it. Did the glowplug light function?
