OM603 Glowplugs

I am changing the glow plugs on my 87 while I am changing the pump, it was getting harder to start over the winter, and I'm looking at them, so hey why not.

I bought a glowplug ream and 6 Bosch glow plugs.

I have 2 glow plug changing questions,

Do I screw the ream all the way in? It will only go about 1/2 way in with my fingers, didn't want to go at with with a socket before I asked.

And what is the torque spec for the new glow plugs?

Thanks!

I am not sure which one you are using. Short one for shorter Glow Plugs and the Long one for the longer ones.
But, if you are using the correct reamer for your application you can screw it all the way in. There is nothing inside of the Prechamber for it to hit.
Put grease in the flutes (grooves) of the Glow Plug Reamer to trap the Carbon.
The Aluminum reamers can I believe go up to the Hex Head. It should take very little force to go through the Carbon if you use a wrench on them. You should not use the amount of force on the Reamer like you would use to tighten something.

No need to worry if you screw it all the way in there is nothing to make contact inside. when the Tool screws in does not stick in much more than the Glow Plug.

There was just some carbon on the threads I think.

Any ideas on torque specs? I googled and didn't come up with anything definitive.

If you have not yet, I highly recommend installing the factory afterglow on that car. It really makes the 603s start far easier in cooler weather.

I have not, links? However I already have the glowplugs, don't you need special glow plugs for afterglow?

The afterglow plugs are rated for the higher voltage of a running engine/alternator, but someone here has posted that he is running the regular '87-spec with afterglow without issues.

The modification is simple: a new relay, new temp sensor (2-pin), new wire from the temp sensor to the relay, new plug-cap and connector for the extra wire on the relay end.

I was surprised to see this thread. Oscar started last night at 2 degrees full of 15/40 with the glow plugs from this thread.

Sorry to barginginfrance but I know very little about the OM321 other than it was used in some unimogs, so maybe a unimog board would have more info.
