Later AC mounting bracket on Early block?
 

I'm contemplating swapping my "80" rebuilt engine currently in my "79" 240D into my 85 euro, 240D and my question is..Will the 85 AC compressor mount bolt right up to the earlier block ? I plan to not break into the AC system as it works fine. The body of the 79 has rust but the engine I rebuilt is premo as is the body and interior of the Euro 85.
I'll keep the 79 with the euro engine for a winter driver since they have decided to use salt on roads around
Seattle now. Any thoughts on the swap which shouldn't be too big of a deal if the blocks are the same?

I have a 78, a 82 and a 84 240... and the 84 needs to come out. it's got the sanden a/c setup in it, all three blocks appear the same, the 78 of course has the york a/c, so it's mounted in a different location, but the block looks the same.
I think the sanden in my euro uses the same block bolt holes as the 79 US R4 mount does...

Is this engine out of an 80 240D? my 80 uses the R-4 Hocky Puck compressor. I think it is the first yr for it.


Sanden? I have a Sanden bracket from a Euro 300D. It only uses the 2 forward holes on the side of the block, and uses 2 tapped holes under the vacuum pump which the 617.952 doesn`t have. also don`t see them on my 80 240. post some pictures of your bracket some time if you think about it.

Thanks for getting back guys. My knowledge of ACs is about limited to ripping out old York compressors. However since the unit in the Euro 85, 240D works well and was converted to 135 (?) I might as well keep it. I really dont know what brand it is.

The engine I would be swapping in is an 80 616 with the 12mm GPs. I used the oversize pistons, balanced things, really tried to do a good job and consequently it has more zip than the Euro engine.

I'll check out the info you posted and report back when and if I do this. I would like to have my ducks lined up first as two cars will be down for this swap.

Seems the blocks should be the same so I should be able to hang the compressor and bolt it back to the 80 block.

edit..The 80 engine has no AC

If its a 240 do yourself a favor and go straight to a Sanden--larry bible on BW can direct you where to get that bracket, your 240 doesn't need to expent 15 hp that it cant spare on the hockey puck,, The sanden only leeches 7!

The compressor in my 85 240D was installed just before I got the car in 03 and works fine. I never noticed it wasn't standard equip till I noticed there is only one diagonal strut up front.
Next time I have the car up I'll see what brand it is.

According to the Russian site my Euro TD has a Tempmatic. Dont know if thats good or bad but it works;)
