Where to get Block heater adapter?
I ordered a block heater for the motor I am building. After some trials and tribulations I got the thread in plug out of the block last night and felt like the butt of a joke when after all that the heater was a different size. Looking around i see it should have an adapter with the kit, well it didn't. Does anyone know where to get this adapter or know the two thread sizes to where I could maybe look it up on McMastercarr or something? I would consider drilling and tapping the original plug but i'm sure it would be a challenge finding that size tap.

paging Whunter?
whunter you have a post to read... He's likely to be able to find the adapter for you. I believe it is UNOBTAINIUM at the moment, but he may know the specs. |

Unfortunately there is no mention of the engine and or vehicle. Most of the block heaters--not all-- are 38mm, MB stuck with that size for a long time. |
Still searching around for this. T the motor is a 617 from an early 80's 300d Cant remember the engine code off hand as I am at work, 905 maybe? the cam # is 8 I know.
Trying to think how to remedy this if I can"t find the correct adapter: As for now Im thinking about drilling out the stock plug to where the new plug is a sliding fit then JB weld it into there. Problem is, it wont take that much torque to tighten it back in. With the right sealer on the threads this might not be a huge issue. Other issue, if it goes bad it probably won't be coming out very easily. At that point I think I'll just get an inline hose heater from TSC. |
