300D Heat only from ACC
Hi folks,
I've got a 1980 300D that I bought this winter. While there are stickers under the dash that indicate it was converted to R134a, the AC doesn't work, in fact the only thing that comes out of the climate control system is heat. (A/C system turns out to be empty and leaks, but obviously stopping the max heat all the time is the first step) I tried to do some research here and solve the issue on my own. I took the faceplate off the ACC and tried to pull it out, but my ACC unit appears to be different than the one in the DIY repair thread and I couldn't figure out how to remove it. I did find that tube that feeds the ACC sensor had disintegrated, and I replaced it (with some PVC if I recall correctly). While I was hopeful, that did not solve the problem. Looking for this monovalve object I keep hearing about, I found some items that appear to be related to the coolant flow/heater core under the hood on the left hand side that have been monkeyed around with. I hope the two pictures I've snapped allow the details to be seen. There are two "heater" hoses that are disconnected, and another that is looped as a bypass. The pictures can be viewed full sized here: https://picasaweb.google.com/3liter6/300D?authkey=Gv1sRgCOiUpeiJ4uyMGw# Ideally I'd like to fix it properly, but for the time being I'm happy just to get the heat shut off and maybe the A/C going for summer and worry about fixing it right when the flurries fly again. Thanks for any help! |
