Boost

How much boost should a properly working turbo on a 1985 300D be putting out?

When I bought the car last week, there was a boost gauge in the car. When traveling at highway speeds or have my foot on the pedal, it only hits 5 maybe 6 at best. What do you think could be the problem?

lack of fuel? plugged air filter? not enough load on the motor I.E. flat area, not much acceleration needed?

mid 30's , seriously though boost is load related, if you are just cruising down the highway it will be low (low load), if you floor it the boost should climb (high load). on board?

Could be any number of things, does your car smoke a lot?

Factory spec is something like 13-14psi is the legal "max" for engine life, true? I seem to remember "set at 12 by the factory, but 14 is the "max" from previous threads. If this is wrong I'll change it.

no, but I will only hit that is I have it to the floor, going up a steep grade, normally only reached about 17. Temp gauge itself is rock steady at 80. I plan on adding an EGT soon though. I'm still working out the fueling issues, worked on the linkages yesterday etc, the one pushing the fuel load was a little too short and not actually opening it up all the way etc.. still, no smoke at all so I have a ways to go. I figure I'll have it right where I want it if I can get it to smoke at WOT around 4k RPMS.

As it sits, it's accelerating driving similar to my 87 300D with the 603 in it and nothing really altered. But until I get that new head actually on, I can't really do much testing.

20 is too high. At this point, unless you are throwing more fuel to her, you are just creating an increase in exhaust temp. I have mine set at 13...up from 5-6.

You say you have yours set at 13. How do adjust the amount of boost your turbo puts out?
