your engine smooth enough to balance a full 1/2 liter glass of beer?

The test:

Is green fuel (100% biodiesel) ... which is not only pollution free (almost!), but also smooth enough to balance a full half liter glass of beer on the running engine.

Standard disclaimer: no small-batch, hand-crafted beer was harmed in this test.

Vehicle: 1979 Mercedes Benz Turbo Diesel. Yes, a 32 year old car.

Fuel: 100% Piedmont Fuels Biodiesel

Youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch? v=-t1iWYBGy0o

Winds: running in Louisville, Kentucky from SW at 15mph gusting to 21mph (12:45pm on Saturday, April 16th, 2011).

Cheers from Ludwigstadt, Kentucky

Christian

What a smelly mess if your engine fails the test !!!!!
Cops will be stopping the car and have it do a breathalizer test....and it FAIL....

who in their right mind would risk a large frosty beverage with this test?

Biodiesel A WHOLE LOT LESS "smelly" than #2.

I would characterize 100% biodiesel as a faint hint of melted Crayola crayons.

fine, i will go out side and cold start my 82 240d with 250k miles on it (also heavily modified), and set the cola im drinking right now on its oily valve cover and video it. and it has "gasp" waste veggie oil in the tank mixed in with regular diesel.

Balance a nickle on it's edge and call it a maybach. That was the in tune spec for their gas engines in the thirties I read somewhere years ago. No cheating with crazy glue either.

heh, you ever tried to set anything down on a 616's valve cover? i was proud of myself for finding a spot for a glass. They are only "smooth" because mercedes made very good motor mounts and mine just happen to be intact still.

I'm happy if the mirror is stable in the cab.

My 82 300SD has just passed this test with flying colors. Warm engine, new motor mounts and lots of class. Honestly if you don't test it while the engine is warm you're an idiot, but then it warms the beer! Oh, the conundrum!

spilt beer

No my engines aren't that smooth. I spill enough beer on the engine when it's not running and don't want to take the chance of breaking fine crystal in there. Heck, my dentures fall out at red lights
And spillt beer does not degrease the motor!
