Hard shifting tranny
I just got my 84 190D going and it is running great but the tranny is shifting to hard, I did the adjustment on the tranny last night. What does the adjustment on the injector pump do? Sorry forgot what it is called, any help would be great.

The vacuum control valve (VCV) on the IP regulates the vacuum signal going to the transmission. There is a simple and straigt-forward procedure for setting.
Your car MAY also have the vacuum amplifier, affectionately known as the blue flying saucer (BFS) which takes the signal from the VCV and increases it. The vacuum to the tranny is what determines the abruptness or softness of the shift. |

too harsh shifting is caused by a lack of vacuum to the transmission.
there are adjustments that can be made on the transmission, and there are vacuum restrictors in the lines. I think the valve on the IP is called a variable vacuum valve. I'd connect a mitivac to the vacuum line and see if vacuum is reaching it. you could have leaks in the engine compartment. see the HUUUUUGGGGEEEEE thread critical vacuum if you go to the list of threads in the forum, at the top, is a choice of organization. currently it's by date, choose by reply or by views... either one will put critical at the top...
