Maybe joining the family....
..... of diesel heads.
We've been offered a 78 300SD. For free. 260k miles, runs strong and smooth - pulls hard, shifts like butter. AC doesn't work, passenger side window switches are broken (pulled out of the center console), a couple dash cracks. Otherwise, the interior is dang near pristine. Has been tapped from behind (trunk lid catches on opening). Biggest concern is rust. Jack points are pretty much gone on the passenger side, less so on the driver side. Tempted to take it, use it as a daily driver and have friend Louis use it as platform to teach me welding .

Why not drive it as is and keep the miles off that lovely W108. It may be good transport but also may not be worth fixing. If you end up liking it, then sometime in the future, find a nice body and swap the drive train out.

That model has the evil servo. Is it working? Can be pricey to fix if you want fully functional climate control. It can be bypassed for heat.
