Here is what I found when I took apart my transmission. Apparently three screws had worked themselves loose, ground against the housing, then fallen out.

Same Problem!!!

My husband took our transmission apart after our car had the same issue yours did with the previous owner. He couldn't see what was wrong with it except for this tiny thing that was snapped in half. Well that only affects reverse so we knew that wasn't our main problem. Well I got on Bing and typed in a few key words and I found this. Thank you so much for posting this otherwise we would never have known what was wrong with our tran! 1981 300D with 137,000 miles on it will now live to see more miles
