i have a tired 79 with a manual transmission. last summer, after a fuel filter change out and a valve adjustment, i was with a long time pedal to the floor able to coax 90mph out of 'old stinky'.

I've never topped out my 1982 300D, but it'll bury the 85 MPH speedo with ease.

Well after my foot was to the floor for over a minute acclerating this barge, the temp guage creeped up to about 90.. she usually runs at 82c all the time.

I coaxed a C220 Sportcoupe CDi up to an indicated 230KPH (142MPH) on the German Autobahn a few months ago.

That was a sweet Diesel, and dramatically faster than my '92 300D (which I've seen 110 MPH in; it has more I think, but who's got the time & distance?)

No no

Barge? We prefer the term "Land Yacht", or in a pinch "Automotank"

The 123 and 124 might be yachts. The 126 is a barge, the SDL decidedly so. And I want one

It's sheer mass, not air resistance. Air sees an SDL coming and moves aside.

I was on my way to Frisco over Thanksgiving and got just shy of a 100mph in my normally aspirated 79 300D when I let off. I believe she'll break that easily, she had some pedal left. Boy was that motor reving though. I was past that last dot on the speedo. I figured hundreds of miles from home, maybe I should take it easy.

Frank.

I had my 78 240 at 94 mph for at least 30 seconds. Then I reached a small incline and the speed dropped to about 86 mph. I still could not get the temp to read 80c. I wonder if there is something wrong with my temp gauge. Even when it is over 100 outside and the air is full blast the temp woun't reach that mark. My speedo goes to 100 mph. I thought I would be able to bury the needle. I was disapointed.

Turbodiesel, I wonder what the ticket would be for 111mph? Was that all she would do or was there more?
