Engine swap W123 to W126

am I correct in thinking a W123 diesel engine and tranny will fit in a W126 body and chassis?
617952 ... ( w123)

W123 tranny should fit but it won't drive the W126 speedo.

I notice that you don't actually say it's an SD, only that it's a 126 body and chassis.... if you mean you are converting a gasser, you'll be doing some parts shopping or spending quality time at a PnP.

If it's an SD, then it will just be swapping, speaking about the engine compartment.

I just put an SD motor in my w123 coupe. you will have to swap the oil filter housing and the motor mounts. trans tail shaft already mentioned. AC lines are different. its best to leave the original close by and swap parts one at a time

Yes, same issues and it's possible that there may be a difference in the line hooking up to the vacuum pump. This is a very dim memory, so someone correct me pls if wrong.

To reiterate what LutzTD said: preferable to do a section by section comparo between the two, I would find it easier with one engine out and the other still in place. You would be surprised how many people forget to do this. And shops. Don't ask me how I know that....
