Had to replace the rear pads on the 85 D yesterday. Heard lots of scraping/grinding noise. The old pads were Textar brand. The pads were detached from their metal backing and were crumbling. they shouldn't have worn out sooner than the fronts.

Don’t think I’ll be getting Textar again. Just got a new set from AZ that have lifetime wty. I’ve had good luck with them on the other cars. And I know I won’t be doling out money next time for new pads.

if textar failed, I'd wanna know what is wrong with the car!
sounds like you have a bad mastercylinder/caliper set somewhere. locking them, and causing dragging and excessive heat. the textar pads are supreme in my book.
how long were they on the car? how old are your rubber lines? how fresh is the fluid?

New hard brake and flex lines, new fluid - last year. the pads even appeared 'soggy'. Not impressed. Upgraded front calipers to 126 and rear are orig 123.

Brake pads don't wet themselves.

exactly my point.... just sharing my experience. don't shoot the messenger.

i just have never seen pads come off its backing.... and crumbly.

Maybe you should explain your "point" is language that a four year-old could understand. I am a total loss as to why you are blaming the brake pad for being wet.

Tango, one of the pads had a limp, soggy texture. The others were crumbly. It was a dry day. I don't know how else to explain it to you, my friend.

If the pistons in the caliper are leaking fluid it would get the pads wet. What were they wet with?

I use PBR Organics in the rear and PBR Hybrid Ceramics in front, they work quite well with cross drilled rotors all around.

P, they weren't soggy wet. They were kinda like a chocolate bar on a warm day.

this sounds to me like the pads are soaked with brake fluid.. seriously inspect your calipers.
DO NOT BLAME textar pads.
something is seriously wrong with your brake system if the pads are crumbling or appear chocolate bar consistency...

I agree with double checking and closely inspecting those calipers. Brake pads are by nature quite dry.....only way they'd get that way is a slow and consistent exposure to something like brake fluid.

All four pads, or just one wheel?

Leaking calipers ruining the pads all around would be quite a coincidence.

Friction material separating from the backing plate is a significant failure.

I'd suspect defective pads OR a defective install or some sort. Pads sprayed with brake cleaner, maybe the wheels sprayed too many times with aggressive cleaners? Parking brake dragging and building heat?
