1980 300TD mbz acceleration linkage

Something fell off of the acceleration linkage area (not sure what to call it). I step on the gas pedal, but the car doesn't rev at all. I can pull on the arm under the hood and it works, but there seems to be a piece missing to link the pedal to the arm. Anyone know what I need? Photos attached. (Cruise control has never worked since I got the car and I don't need it).

Could have someone mash the throttle peddle whilst you see whats not connected. Should be fairly obvious.

Connect the "second" rod on top of the valve cover, shown in various positions in the photo ... to its rod end, which is located at the top of the "PUSH" lever, and has come undone.

There is more than one version of linkages so see which one matches.

The Bell Crank on the Fire Wall I believe has rubber parts that can get rotted out.

I do not know why the Cables are not shown in the pics.

like frank b said, the linkage end has come out of the rod.
pop off each end, clean and tighten the jam nuts when it's where you need it.

Don't forget to clean up your linkages and oil them when you're putting them back together... and then have a look at these two threads:-

And here for adjustment

Problem Identified

Thanks everyone.
The rod did pop out due to a plastic piece slipping. In the photo I circled the culprit. The curved plastic piece is slipping upwards (toward passenger side of car) and not able to move back down because of the tiny metal rod sticking out. That popped the rod out of place. I put it back to the correct configuration and she drove fine for about 90 miles and then it slipped again. Perhaps I'll have to replace the smaller plastic part.

if you look carefully at the rods, you will notice they are supposed to be threaded into the ball ends. the little jam nuts are supposed to prevent them from coming out of adjustment. the plastic part has little bearing on the operation of the system. also in your pic, the other rod adjacent to the rod that's loose has a loose jam nut also.
thread them back together, and then lock the nuts tight against the socket end, and it will stay.

looking at your pic again, I notice you have a shock instead of the standard threaded rod... I thought those were just on the 240's... hmmm I've gotta go look at my 80TD now... I'll check it in the morning.

It turned out that a a little tiny sheet of plastic inserted into the socket (with some tranny fluid) created enough padding to prevent the socket from rotating too much. Apparently the socket had worn down a bit and was rotating back and forth which allowed the jam nut to keep unscrewing.
