Question W 140 air-conditioning troubleshooting

Well here's where I'm at...I got 43 psi on the low side, so don't think I need a charge. I put the temp all the way to low and press these auto button and put the fan on max. The Compresser does not engage next I removed the connector to the receiver/dryer the connector has 3 connections I jumped the 2 outside pins. The compressed kicked in for 2 seconds and the controls in the cabin switched to the off position without me touching them. Any kind of help would be great.
Chris

43 on the low side with the compressor off indicates nearly empty charge.

Ok tried another shoot at it today hooked up the can of freon with the gauge with the car running and ac on. The compressor will not come on? Then I tried to jump the the low pressure switch on the receiver/drier the compressor kicks in for 2 seconds and controls goes back to the off position. It can't get the system to take in any freon???

Do you have a digital pushbutton control unit? If so, quit bridging those connections for the pressure sending unit.

You can get refrigerant to start to go into the car by gently warming the refrigerant can.

Check your Heater Blower Regulator. I had a problem with my '95 S500 - AC was cold but would not blow. I replaced the regulator and it works fine. Takes about 30 minutes, simple R&R job, 2 screws and 2 connectors and you can check / replace your cabin air filter at the same time. You can find the regulator on eBay for around $50 - $150. It comes with a small tube of zinc oxide that you smear on the back of the unit when replacing it to make contact with the housing below, just be sure to wipe off all the old zinc oxide from the housing before you put the new one on.
