98 e300 turbo diesel. what oil???

I am shipping the car to europe on monday and stocking up on fluids to put in the trunk before the car goes in the container...previous owner has been using synthetic, so should I just buy the mobil 1 15-40 synthetic or rotella 15-40 synthetic??

If you are using the FSS, you MUST use an approved synthetic. Several 210/OM606 owners here, myself included, use Mobil 1 5W-40 Turbo Diesel Truck.

With this car, the issue is not so much the brand but the type. Mobil 1 TDT just happens to be available and affordable and meet the engine requirements. There's a spec. much like the VW TDI that must be followed if you're using the FSS. If you want to run regular 3-5k oil changes, then it's your choice of diesel rated oil.

Rotella does not meet spec for the 606.912 or .962 That said, some .962 owners use it and their engines haven't blown up.

Tons more choices of approved oils are available in Europe as compared to here.......I wouldn't worry about availability.

I would not doubt the fact that there are tons of oils available in Europe for this car. The question, are you willing to pay double and triple are prices here in the states for it. Oil prices are ridiculous in Europe, vat tax this tax that tax ..................crazy

Shipping a car overseas to use one month out of twelve would suggest that cost of fluids wouldn't really be of major concern......If it is, go to Wally world and get some cheap dino oil and change it after one months use......heck, change it twice.
