1995 E300D OM606 engine sound OK after rebuild injectors?

I just replaced the injector nozzles with Bosch. Replaced the glow plugs too. Engine starts immediately and idles a little rough initially but smooths out after warmed up. But the engine is louder than when I had the old nozzles in. Power is a little better, but I still think I'm missing some. Some minor white exhaust smoke even after warmed up. I've been reading about the 'Nailing' noise and was wondering if someone could listen to the mp3 file at this link: https://sites.google.com/site/kickitmisc/home-1 and let me know if the engine sounds OK.

often times injectors need 500 or so miles to set into place... give them some time.

My engine was quite "clattery" after the new nozzles and I was sorely disappointed. However, after a while, it was totally quiet again.

Now the white smoke may indicate the injection is too far retarded. Did you set the pop pressure properly? Do these nozzles specify the same pop pressure as the originals?

The POP pressure on the old nozzles was ~1650 psi (113.8 bar). The new ones tested out at about 1720 psi +/- 20 psi (118.6 bar). The spec is 115 bar +8, so I think I'm OK?

Jeff

Injector Release (Pop Off) pressures are stipulated by Mercedes in two
forms: for New and Used Injectors.

You're Good in that your New (Tested) Injectors are within the Range
Mercedes Specifies for New Injectors.

[Whatever your Old Injectors were operating at Has No Bearing on the New Ones Pressure !]

what about the IP timing and the white smoke?

Does anyone think that my IP timing may be off with the white smoke?

In general I would like to check the timing. The FSM says you have to have a digital tester, but I was wondering if there was another way to do a rough check without a fancy tester?

Fiddle with the IP adjustment screw and see if it gets better or worse.
