126 blower removal question

My daughter's 84 SD has an intermittent blower. Sometimes it kicks on if I hit the dash. Figure brushes have poor contact. Dropped the passenger kick panel and removed the blower cover. How does that blower drop out of there? It's not immediately obvious to me. Does the whole plastic rectangle to which it attaches have to come down? I sprayed some electrical contact cleaner in there in the meantime to improve connections.

Yes, the entire assembly comes out, you should be able to see 3 or 4 screws that hold it in place.

Got it out and replaced the brushes. Ace Hardware does not have the correct sized brushes. Maximum thickness they have is 1/4" and the motor brushes are thicker. Bought some anyway, wider than the motor brushes and cut them down with a small hacksaw and sandpaper to the width of the motor brushes. Since they're not as thick they are a little loose in the slot but seem to work fine. I cut off the knob at the end of the wire on the Ace brushes and reused the OE springs since the fit the slot better.

I did the brush replacement as well. However, a year later the blower started to hang up again, so I replaced the entire motor. I'm hoping it lasts as long as the original (25+ years).
