Question Injector pump part ID help

Need some help to with part on the side of the injector pump what is it and why wouldn't it be plugged in? This is on 83 300CD. See photos. Thanks

That part is called a rack position sensor. It serves no purpose for fuel delivery only for emission purposes in controlling the EGR and ARV. It only came on 1984 Cali and '85 Fed & Cali cars. 1983 model year never had it.

Just leave it unplugged and you'll be fine.
