Beckers are pretty good tuners.

I've been fooling with my 1980 "Mexico" and plan on installing it in my car. I have it rigged up to a power supply and a 2' cheapo antenna in the garage and it's getting stations that I have trouble picking up in other cars around here.

The "scan" is really cool  and does a pretty good job for a mechanical system. I've read complaints about the audio quality (It was 1980...) but I'll bet this tuner with that great big antenna should work well on terrestrial radio. Can't find XM on it...

Looks cool too

That aux in just gave me a semi. Its a beautiful radio. Now move this thread to the audio tech forum.

I was messing around with a Becker Europa in my kitchen, i was impressed with how sensitive it was, and it sounded good too!

Difficult to find these radios in the yards. good score where ever you found it. at least you don`t need 1/2 of the owners manual on how to turn these on.

COMPU_85, I have 2 of the Europa`s. one from PNP out of a SLC, and the other from a forum member. the PNP one has good sound, except the volumn control is touchy. turn it on and all is goo, turn the vol and it will jump to max vol. turn it all the way down and stays full vol. thump knob a few times and it will drop down in vol.

the second one I hooked it up, and almost no volumn. I discovered on the back, black plug, third from the right has 2 prongs that evidently jumps 2 of the connections in that plug. I swaped over the plug from first radio, and vol shot up. but radio has some other issues.

If you still have it hooked up, pull the black plug, does it effect the vol?
I need to send these to Becker and have them gone through eventually.

I used this tutorial over on 116.org to do the aux.in:

http://gallery.w116.org/v/garage/koan/

It works great! The radio came in the trunk of my car and every time I opened the trunk it called to me :D I took it apart to lube the "Wunderbar" mechanism and it fired right up. The scan was hanging up at first but it straightened out after some use.

The tape deck doesn't work but with an aux in I really don't need it. Would be cool to have it working though!

I think it's gonna be uberkool having this thing in my dash!

Charlie, the volume doesn't work when the plug is out. I believe the plug is for some european traffic system.

A vid of the Wunderbar in action.

You can see the cheezy antenna I'm testing with in the background.
