Cowl trim

Quick question....

How do you remove the piece of black plastic trim that is on the front cowl (the one under the windshield) without breaking it? I want to pull mine off of my 83 300D and clean under there. Looks like you just pry up on it but I don't want to break anything

Many thanks,

Glenn

Iam assuming you are talking about the air intake vents on either side?

There are 4 clips that hold each one on. In the center is a square pin that has to be punched out. use a flat punch or small blade screwdriver with a hammer and tap them out. they will fall down under the vent. then use the small blade flat screwdriver, and gently pry up on the clips and remove them. the front edge of the vent lifts up. there are about 4 tabs that slide under the back edge that hold it down.

On the drivers side, you will need to remove the windshield wipper arm. remove the 13mm nut, wiggle the arm off. then there is a plastic piece that fits over the wipper shaft. they are brittle from age and usually stuck on pretty good. that has to come off, and the rest is the same.

The square pins can be retrieved after you lift off the vent. they can be reinserted back into the clips and reused.
one of the pins most likely will fall down into the drain tube and be lost. on the firewall the large rubber tube on each side of the firewall is the drain. use a piece of tape to hold it closed so you can retrieve it later.
