doors wont latch

Hello,

I have an 81 240d with 195k miles. Recently the the 2 passenger side doors stopped latching. They semi latch but not completeley. Any ideas on an easy fix or do I need to get a new latch assembly?

thanks

Jake

The rubber dingy thing needs to be replaced..
a pretty simple job...
and if you use my name with the advanced search feature you will find pictures of the correct drill size to use to take the old ones off.. typically they are frozen on and need to be drilled.. but once the pressure is off the ( tapered ) head it is easy...

Just ordered a set of these from FleaBay yesterday.

I have purchased products from them in the past without a problem.
You may want to check the sponsor of this forum first to see if they stock them.

Pardon my stupidity. These go inside the striker plate, on the doorframe?

Leathermang, I tried to search for the post you described but all I got was a post by you in a thread, saying you had replaced yours. Any chance of a link to the photos you're talking about?

thx

Correct.

There is a rubber tab on the bottom of the striker that trips the latching mechanism in the door. When the tab is worn or broken, the door won't latch. In some cases, adjusting the position of the striker will restore normal function.

The striker plate itself is quite sturdy. The bit that tends to fail is the little rubber bit that the latch catches onto. These can be bought separately, no need to buy whole striker plate.

I have pulled the rear stikers and used them on the front doors that get most of the use. Usually the rears are in good shape.

Iam listing the Part# so some searching down the road it is here for eternity. A123 720 01 04 and A123 720 02 04.

Thanks for the replies. I saw the item on eBay but was having trouble matching it up mentally to the car.

I get you now. I hope....
