85 300DT Replace Rear Trailing Arm Help

The left rear shock has broken through the trailing arm & I am in the process of replacing it from a parts car I've got, however, I am having dificulty disconnecting the parking brake cable from the hub, is there a trick or does the whole cable need to be removed?

That all depends. does your new Trailing Arm have the Brake cable attached to it? If it does then just swap things over. If it doesn`t, then you will have to R & R the cable.

Follow the cable from the backing plate forward. As I remember doing mine, there is a 8mm screw and a clamp on the left side that bolts it to the floor. Both cables connect to the adjustment thingy under the car. loosen it up to get slack on the cables, and it will slide off a hook arangement. then I think there is a gromett the cable runs through.pull it out towards the rear.

If you do have to swap over the cable (as I did when I R&R`d the rear beshings etc...) easier when the trailing arm is on the bench. kind of a PITA to get in and out of the backing plate, and the parking brakes hooked back up.

Mine is a 300D not TD. you have the SLS to work around, not familiar with it. should be somewhat the same.

I just reread above, you have a parts car, so don`t have to remove the cable from the backing plate.

You can disconnect the brake cable from under the car close to the centre bearing on the propshaft. You then just need to thread it through the metal (with rubber bung) eyes on the trailing arm and possibly the subframe.

(Oh drat 85 - I'm talking about W123s - if you've got a W124 then I guess it will be almost the same set up)
