Squeaky Water pump
My water pump is Squeaking, It's a light squeak RPM Variable and it's coming from the water pump or the area right there. I assume the water pump bearings are going bad? Replace the whole unit?

If you are sure it isn't the V belt - then yes replace it.

Are you sure it's not the alternator? Try a focused spritz of WD-40.

Yeee gads - I'd look about a bit more before replacing that - take the belt off and see if you can feel play / roughness... ...definitely listen to sixto... ...not in the same ball park as a 50 euro W123 one then...

Take the belt off and spin it by hand? WP is not something you really want to mess around with, its a great contender to get you stranded AMHIK....

Thought he meant the radiator personally...which is still pretty steep, I got my rad from Phil for under $300 IIRC. Water pump is somewhere around 100 bucks.

400 bucks is the water pump, drain tube, and labor. I cant do the pump here the locals would freak out.... I'll also try to get the belt off when it cools down outside, see how the WP pully feels. I dont want it to lock up on me and leave me sitting on the side of the road.... Had enough of that when my fuel system was sucking air... thanks for the replies, I do appreciate it

Some People have recieved Belts with the wrong V shape. Take a look and see where the Belt is wearing.
Also what condition is/are the V-groove in the Pulley/s.

603 water pump replacement isn't difficult because the housing half with the thermostat and hoses can remain attached to the block. Some of the bolts are difficult to access with the crank damper and dipstick in the way but that's what u-joints are for. Lift the corner enough to get a gallon jug under the radiator petcock and it'll look to the world like you're changing the oil. Or does that get their HOA feathers in a bunch as well?
With the $300 you save on labor, get a 2-piece shroud to make it really easy to work on the front of the engine. Sixto 87 300D |

There must be competant backyard mechanics locally. I have questions in my mind about the advisability of owning a really older car if you have to use heavy paid for service all the time to meet your needs.
It is rough enough on recent cars with few faults arising to do this. I have so much trust in garages now that other than safety checks steer well clear of them. It was not always this way. |

I would order it from here if I could do it here... like I said, the locals take a very bad attitude to a hood up.... last time I had a hood up 5 minutes later the Property inspector came over to yell at me....

O.K.
(Not So,*******s)
I know y'all must have a "Technical" college in the area. They will have a shop. I'd find out who's the Instructor and introduce myself and see if She/He can make some space available when classes aren't actively using the area. [They are supported by Tax Dollars...]
