Hey folks -- Thanks again to Joe Bauers for helping me adjust the valves in my newly purchased '75 300D. After the adjustment, the car felt much more "sure of itself" from about 30mph up to highway speed, but when I got home and idled into my driveway, the car shuddered and died. Then, when backing out into the street an hour or so later, it shuddered and died again when in reverse.
The car idles fine in park or neutral, but dies when shifted into gear with the brakes on or on an incline. Any ideas? Might we have gotten the linkage atop the valve cover just "out of whack" enough to cause these symptoms? Thanks in advance, Chris cscmc1@eiu.edu |

PS
As an afterthought -- I should add that the idle adjust knob has no effect since the valve adjust, so something was indeed reinstalled a little bit "off" from original. It also seems that my accelerator cable or throttle may be sticking open a bit, as the car seems to want to drive itself at times (i.e. doesn't always like to decelerate when I take my foot off the accelerator pedal).
Guess it's time to lube the cable and fiddle with idle adjust??? Thanks again, Chris |
