190d questions
I have a chance (maybe) to buy a 1986 190d with the 5 speed transmission. It has like 130k miles on it and is seemingly well maintained.
It is not without issues, as he dash is cracked, the drivers seat a bit worn, and it will need front end work. I know the manual diesels are rare, but what is a fair price for it? Similarly, how much should I worry about the prospect of front end work? Thanks

Any chance of a PPI? Documented service history? AC or ACC works? Sunroof, windows, vacuum controlled devices? Oil leaks? Exhaust smoke? Rust? Accident history?
The front end is different from what you're used to in a 123 but entirely serviceable. Special tools make easy work of installing LCA bushings but it can be done with creativity. Hard to imagine the front end needs work and the rear doesn't. I'd say $2000 is a fair price. Sixto 87 300D |

I paid $2,000 for my 190D 5 spd several years ago. It is a great car, very good fuel mileage. They are a little under powered (good thing it has the 5, and not the auto), so you can't be in a hurry or win any races (except maybe against a 240 automatic). Anything around $2,000 would be a good deal for you.
