Question W123 Exterior Lower Door Trim removal

How do you remove the lower door trim on the outside? the rubber part with the chrome strip. i want to get at some rust.

In the back there is a screw, no problem there. But i cant see how to remove the front metal bracket. Is it's supposed to come off with the trim or stay on the car itself?

This is for the front door.

Thanks :-)

dd

Once you've got the screw out you'll find that the front part of the trim is hooked into the door skin with an evil bugger which I think slides out towards the rear of the car - well in that direction if you see what I mean.

The other trim to door skin clips can be pinged off with care. The way I've removed it is to lever upwards on the trim and then backwards for the evil bugger bit (see above). After doing this it might be necessary to go to the dealer and get some new door skin clips. These are a sort of bayonet fixing: look in the middle of the clip and you'll see a circular end of a rod that can be pushed into the door to remove the clip.

If your trim is stuck on - really stuck on - look for evidence of silicone sealant... that's what was hold some of my trim on when I bought the car...
