Windshield reservoir rubber grommets

There are some rubber grommets on top of the windshield washer reservoir, around the metal radiator tubes that go it. They are dryrotted, so washing fluid leaks out when the car is moving. I got new grommets, though they look different that what I had, I guess they would work.

Only problem is, I can't figure out how to install them.

I took the rubber hose off the end of the metal tube that extends into the reservoir, pushed the rubber grommet onto it and tried to slide it down into place that way, but it doesn't want to fit on properly. I used a pair of needle nose pliers to help push it into place, but it just doesn't want to do it.

Anyone know the proper way to put those on?

Photo 1 shows lid closed, and the top side of the grommets. Photo 2 shows it with the cap open. You can see how far down they go, and they protrude out at the bottom on these originals.

Thanks,

I do not know which grommets you are dealing with...
so this may not apply...
but often spraying them with silicone spray helps them slide into place...like those meant for the firewall to protect wires....

Those are sorta small photos...and do not enlarge ..
So I can not see them for sure..
Are those single grommets which have multiple grooves in them and fit both above and below the outside of the container... or multiple grommets ?
I still say that silicone spray and ' getting physical' with some grommets is the only way to install them... pushing with something the right size WHICH WILL NOT CUT THEM... but can move them one groove at a time... may be the trick... like firewall line protector grommets...
Get hold of those and pull them out in pieces..... then inspect them to see if they offer any clues as to how they fit.....
Push comes to shove... brace the hard pieces in place and inject Red high temp RTV into the spaces...let cure overnight before moving.
