Can you reuse the cap for the vacuum modulator 81 300SD
Guys - on my 300SD I replaced the tranny and adjusted the vac system and it shifted pretty well. Lately it has been not so good. I thought I would turn the vacuum modulator just a bit CW for sharper shifts. When I got under the car I noticed the cap was about halfway off. I pushed it back on after making a slight adjustment.
Question - lots of folks say the white cap, once removed, cannot be used again. What's the verdict? Is there something about it that breaks when you remove it the first time? Wondering if this cap is leaking and that is my shifting problem. |

They're totally cheap. Buy a new one and find out. If the cap is leaking, you will have shifting problems. I, personally, would not reuse.
Jay.

Yes, I understand. But what do the specs say? Do they limit it to a single reuse? Hate to buy one from the stealership.
Also - what's to leak? The cap has an opening to the atmosphere so you can make limited adjustments to the vac modulator. I cannot figure out what could be sealed. |
