Does this Window regulator look bent to you?
Ive been having a strange resistance in my window for the last year and a half it seems. Its become worse after someone drove into my door.
Finally decided to take it apart and look. To me this looks like its bent up. But I wondered if it should be totally straight or if its actually offset a little to bolt into the door frame properly? Any thoughts? I feel like if its just the aluminum part thats bent I can probably bend it back. It looks like the steel cog wheel part is still straight. Its a 1985 300TD W123 |

You can probably bend it back. But you need a guide. Take the one out of your other door and bend the bad one back to match. They are pretty tough.

I thought with a vise and some careful force i could gear it back to something pretty close to its original shape. The metal teeth are a bit chewed but I think once its aligned they should grab much better.
That was the problem in the fist place. The steel cog was rubbing tightly against the aluminum where it was bent and the cogs were slightly more spread than they should be so it would skip every the teeth as it moved the window up and down. I also found this piece in the door and I cant seem to figure out where it came from. Its obviously broken off of something as you can see where the two holes are split in half, the other half probably still attached to what its supposed to be attached to. Its a solid piece of steel, almost looks galvanized but sort of yellowish. Any guesses? Thanks |

Hey Thats great. I may try and rig something up for mine too. I had even thought about reinforcing it but obviously Im not the only one who has seen this problem.
I thought it must have bent by an accident but I guess its just the force of the motor slowly contorting the thing till its twisted. What difference would one notice with the spring out. And anyone any Ideas of what the part is in the last picture I posted? Look familiar> Thanks again Michael |

Could it be a piece of the door lock? Maybe it was replaced and they left this piece in door.

There is no stop on the window motor when the window get to the closed position. so the motor will keep putting pressure on the regulator until you release the switch. I believe this is what bends the regulator over the years of use. I have noticed the door panel bulge slightly if I don`t release the switch soon enough. If it does, bump the switch to release the pressure.
I don`t know what you have available in the JY in your area of Canada, but I have found several good used regulators in the yards around here. I have pulled some so bent, makes yours look straight. also the drivers side window motor is NLA new. Bending it back may work, but that is a cast piece of aluminum and "may" start to crack. Charlie

The bent part of the Window Regulators appearsto be made of something that is closer to the alloy that Carburators are made of instead of be Aluminum.
