Stange electrical problem

My car has a weird electrical issue. Every 4-5 months, I will notice that it is cranking slower than normal. When this happens, I have about 3-4 more starts before I have to put the battery on a charger. This car is driven regularly, so it isn't from the battery self discharging from lack of driving. The alternator does seem to work, but I'm not convinced that it is performing as it should. With the blower on high, you can hear the blower speed up when you bring the engine to a fast idle. The only thing I can think of is something is wrong with the voltage regulator, but that is sort of a guess. Anyone have any ideas?

Exactly the symptoms on mine until I changed out the voltage regulator. The brushes were down to the nubs. No problems after that.

Easy to check and easy to replace, just check the voltage output to the battery.

Get yourself one of those cheap voltmeters which plugs into the cigarette lighter and remove all doubt.

I've seen as low as 10.8 volts at idle with the headlights on and the blower on high.

Here's what you do: go to your nearest Autozone type store, and have them come out and do a free electrical test on the car. They walk you through the paces of starting, full loads on, running, stopped. Then they tell you the condition of your battery and alternator, and give you the paper tape printout from the handheld computer.

Free!
