Does 1995 E300 necessarily use a fuel prefilter?

I would have thought that any 1995 E300 would two fuel filters: pre and main. Both parts are certainly available. But, someone on this forum mentioned that some (though not all) of this vehicle have only the main fuel filter.

I'm trying to help a friend with his E300 and am having difficulty locating the prefilter.

Thanks.

My 606 (in a W210) has the prefilter sunk into the aluminum housing that holds the secondary filter. You can't see it until you remove it.

Fastlane has it too. Don't forget to also buy a new sealing ring (as in the note on the picture).

The black o-ring on the black plastic part is easy to miss, but the car won't run without it.

Both filters are held with the same bracket. The replaceable canister filter that resembles an oil filter is the main filter, and the prefilter (shown in the photo above) is hiding under a connection to the left of the main filter. Make sure to order both the prefilter and the O ring that goes with it. The car will not start without the O ring.

For some reason they are sold separately, which is crazy.
