AC blows warm air not cold
I just bought my first MB, a 1991 300 SE one owner with 104,000 miles. Has all documents and service records. Last year the AC quit blowing cold and the original owner took it to the shop, all it needed was a fuse. Doing the same thing now. What do I look for? What fuse would it most likely be? What is a good price for a car like this ? Like showroom/new never has had anyone sit in the back seat rugs are mint. No wear on the car at all, owned by a elderly couple. This is all NEW to me.......HELP !

First check to see if the a/c compressor "inner" pulley is turning when you have selected the a/c to be on with the engine running. Let me know what you find. Was it ever what you could consider "cold". If it has been converted to r134 it will not perform as it will with r12 freon.

Something else might be in need of maintenance .....remove any corrosion from all fuses.... and see that they are the proper ' size'.. electricity wise'... someone might have installed one bigger than specified....which could lead to a fire instead of a blown fuse...

Same thing happened to me with my1991 350SD. It was a corroded fuse. On the inside of your fuse box should be an identification chart. Find the fuse for AC and replace. Good luck.

I pick the 300 SE up today at 1PM to bring it home. Drove it yesterday and it drives like a new car. A friend of mine drives one and it is in no way as tight as the MB I'm picking up today. The lady I bought it from sold it because she was only driving it about 750 miles a year, the last 3 years. This car is like brand new. They claim that the car gets about 26 mile to the gallon on the expressway. Thanks for the help. I will post some pictures soon. Any idea what this car might be worth?

I wouldn't expect a 300SE to get that much....because thats a gasser. The 300SD will get that and more however.

The fuses are all ok. No corroded or blown. This part I know for sure I'm a industrial electrician. If the a/c compressor is on the passengers side, like I think it is, the clutch kicks in for a second or two and than stops. If the compressor is on the drivers side I can't see if the clutch is kicking in or not. If you watch the tach the first time you turn the a/c on you see the rpms go down for a moment then they go back up. But this doesn't happen every time, usually just the first time. Is it hard to convert to 134 on these autos? I need help it's hot outside.

The compressor is on the driver side low in the engine bay. What you see on the passenger side is the air pump to warm up the catalytic converter.
If you want maximum cooling don't convert to R134a. Is there a reason you use bold typeface? We're not hard of reading. Sixto 87 300D Last edited by sixto; 08-05-2011 at 12:09 AM. |
