Diesel owners need your help! (Well this one does anyway) Balancer research

G'day All,

I'm hoping some of you petrol gurus over here will be able to help out your diesel cousins on the other forum...

I've started a thread asking about a relatively common problem with OM617 / 616 / 615 engines => balancer failure

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=302332

I'm trying to work out why these fail.

The following list of petrol engines also have a similar design balancer - well they use the same dowel pins as the OM61X engines.

So the question is:-

Has anyone ever had a balancer problem on a

M110 / 114 / 115 / 127 / 130 / 180

engine?

Any help you can give will be appreciated.

In my experience they only fail if the central bolt (M18) is not tightened
correctly. Normally they don't make problems.
