Metal OEL cap gasket replacement

I have metal OEL cap that needs a new gasket. I cannot find one on Fastlane. I also tried using a new one used for the plastic oil cap. It does not fit properly.

Will a gasket meant for the fuel cap work?

I do have a plastic oil cap, so I am using it until I can find a gasket for the metal one.

Thanks!

Not very well.

A search for MBZ009080 should turn up plenty of vendors for the metal oil cap gasket.

I thought about that also. Problem is that when I try to cut out a circle, it always looks like a many sided polygon!

metal oil caps and metal fuel caps use the same diameter seal. Or at least close enough that it works fine on both of my cars.

The plastic oil caps have much different size seals.

The seal for a metal oil cap is not the same as the seal for a metal fuel cap. Not the same dimensions; not the same material. Not even (currently) the same color. Different part, different part number, different price. Different operating environment.

You are correct on all accounts. But it does fit.

I washed up one of several spare PNP metal OEL caps, dug out the Hard cooked black old rubber gasket that had turned to the consistency of plastic. broke in several pieces. washed the cap in a pan of gas, blew it out, and install one of my Blue Gaskets.

Opened the hood of the 240D and removed my leak free cap and install the Blue gasketed one. fits very well and nice and tight.

The old metal fuel cap and the oil cap will interchange, so what difference what gasket is under it if it works? one difference the VC gets hot and cooks the rubber gasket, the fuel cap is in a cool invironment and subjected to Diesel fuel. both a petroleum product.

The 300D has the Blue one and the 240 has a new black one. we`ll see how they hold up in the long term.
