300d engine shock

Hey guys, I did some searching and found one thread on another forum but would like some clarification.

I just had a motor from a 1985 euro model non turbo 300d swapped into my 78. Runs awesome(rough for a second when cold) and almost no engine shake at all, however I noticed there is no engine shock at all. Mechanic said old one was not working and one from 78 engine wouldn't fit. He doesnt know diesels though, or mercedes for that matter.

Do I need one?

If it is working OK as is I do not see an issue with not having Engine Shocks.
I know my Engine tends to give a serious shake when it is shut off and if the shock was not there it might thump hard.
However, I have some cheapie Engine Mounts on the Car. (I have some good Lemforders to install later.)

There should be 2 engine shocks. one each side. the upper mount is on the aluminum arms that bolt to the motor mounts. and the lower mount should be on the body cross mount that runs under the engine.

The shocks lessen the engine shake when turning it off. takes some of the stress of the motor mounts.

If the mechanic used the 85 euro engine mounts arms, maybe the Euro doesn`t use engine shocks?

Thanks for the input guys,

Charlie, the 85 motor thats in the car has a place on the passenger side near the front where what I can only assume is an engine shock mount. The 85 is different though, totally different IP.

You probably have the "M" pump. the manual fuel shutoff is a lever on the side that pushes down, and the fuel lines have a different bend to them.
