My 190d going for scrap, so we blew up the engine

The ol' girl served me well, but is unsafe for the road and no one will buy it. Sadly it must be scrapped. Not for the faint of heart. It reved way to fast!

No one would have wanted it. It had almost no useable parts. engine had a bad hydraulic compensator, trans shifted poorly, body was totally rotten, lights cracked, bad tint job on the glass, interior well worn, nothing worked well, all parts were worn out. 400 000 km but the odometer did not work when I got it. It has been listed online but no one wants it. Listed as best offer. Couldn't even sell it for $300. One guy wanted the engine but it didn't run well enough for him. It is worth more in scrap metal than as a car. I let they guys at work have some fun with it before it goes for scrap. It's not going to be picked apart for a few years, it is going to be shredded an hour after I drop it off.

Well you post a video of you destroying what could be a useful core engine for someone on a forum dedicated to the restoration, preservation, and maintenance of those engines. You're not going to be praised, and given high fives here.

Sure I've wanted to blow an engine but probably never will on purpose because if I have one that is tired I'd rebuild it and or sell it. The head on it was probably good and someone here could have used it. heck I probably would have given you $175 for your "worn out" engine and have fun rebuilding it.

You're probably not one of those members, you know, that actually care about their car and enjoy replacing and restoring every bit of it.

So enjoy your beer money you got for the sad and tired car and have fun! Have a great day, have a blessed day, and just enjoy what gifts you have received.

How much are you getting for scrap?

It's really sad that no one wanted it at $300...

Lots of things seem to be worth more as scrap these days.

if prepped properly, $400. I would have let it go for $300 but no one would take it. Listed as parts, no one wanted any of those either, and no much was worth saving.

One customer that comes to our shop claims he actually picked up a load of new castings from a supplier who was scrapping them because they were worth more as scrap then they were as the product they were intended to be.

Totally pointless and dumb. Waste a good rebuild-able (or pefectly usable as is) engine.

If anyone wanted it they could have taken it. The problem is distance. Most on here don't have or want the old om602 engines, of those that do, how many of them can get one from the local pick n pull cheaper than having me ship it to you in florida from Canada? There is a thread right now with a guy looking for an automatic trans for a 190d, I have one, hows he going to get it and whos going to pull it?

You should have listed it. If you were I the interest d making money you could have pulled the transmission. But it is what it is.

Guys, I know this hits lots of tender spots...
but the distance/weight thing really gets important when gas prices are high... It is never fun to see anything metal or car related go to the crusher.... but sometimes it is the ' option of last resort'....

Yeah, that wasn't extreme at all, dude. It didn't even run away. You just over-revved it a little and then it choked. Take off the IP governor and feed an oil spray into the intake and then we'll see extreme.

To all you people saying how stupid it is, have you ever been to a demolition derby? Lots of people are in to them. Nice cars a wrecked all the time. Does that make it wrong? Does that make it right? it's all a matter of opinion. and to each their own.

that was brake clean being sprayed into the intake, It was severely over reving into valve float, would not rev any higher.

Thanks to people who understand that the right part has to be in the right place at the right time when the right person needs it right now. I already overstayed my welcome at work storing the car there. (It broke down on my way top work, once I got there I found it was not repairable). I would have held on to it if I had room and parted it out when all you guys needed stuff. I don't have room to store a parts car, I don't have time to take it apart.

I can't express poor condition the whole car was in. It should not have EVER been put on the road in the first place. It was barely useable as a parts car. It was so rotted it couldn't make it into a demolition derby.

Here's the list of defects known -

-all bodywork dented, rusted, or rotted, not to mention the strut tower seperated from the chassis due to rust
-wiring butchered and falling apart everywhere
-engine leaking oil, water pump worn and leaking, needs mounts, runs with a tick, injectors need rebuild, excessive blowby
-transmission needs shift kit installed, probably slipping to long from 2-3 upshift that the clutches were shot.
-all glass poorly tinted, peeling
-all suspension bushing shot
-needs front brakes, brake lines rotten
-tires all bald
-needs all parking brake cables, parking brake hardware all missing.
-horrible gremlins living inside my hvac vac control system
-water leaks into interior and mildew set in to carpet.

heres the good parts

-exhaust is brand new
-glow plugs one year old
-rear calipers new
-steering joints all new
-most of the lightbulbs work
-dash only had a few minor cracks.

If I can get the stuff off in time I will save it. I was putting it off in hopes of selling the car, now I have almost no time to do so.
