1976 W115 240D Question

Yesterday I was driving home, quite fast around 70-80mpg (thats pushing it for this car) and I noticed the gauges acting strange.

Usually the car's oil pressure is peaked at full and it was going from 3/4 to full. I quickly pulled over to a gas station and noticed there was TONS of oil leaking from the bottom... the gas station owner said its okay to leave it there a couple days.

I took a look at the oil cooler lines and such and they look fine, would you say that I blew the oil filter? I know diesel oil filters are known to go... I was thinking about going down there with a oil filter and some oil. If its not the oil filter, what else could it be? There is nothing leaking around the Injection Pump or anything...

Any of your commends or advice is highly appreciated.

would you say that I blew the oil filter?

I would not think you blew an oil filter, it is a canister type, do you replace the large rubber o ring every time you change the oil?

You might want to check the bolt that’s holds the oil filter on and make sure it is tight.

Is there a hole in the oil pan? Did you hit something?

Not sure where else oil could be pouring out.

yup, engine oil for sure. The guy that previously owned the car said he changed it right before so I have not changed the oil yet (only driven 1000km).

What are other areas it could be leaking?

See if there is an O-ring on top of the existing one, its inside a channel in the cannister that has a long bolt running thru it, the PO might have stacked the O-ring ontop the old one in the channel and that will DEFINITELY cause what you described, oil all over the ground.
I hope the engine survived (any new unusual noises?).

Crankshaft seal (front or rear)?

Valve gasket failure?

What kind of exercise is this ? Mind Reading ?
Clean the engine compartment and turn on the engine...
you will know exactly where the oil is coming from....

Well if it is engine oil - how much is left in there?

Check this before starting the engine again. Fill up if necessary.

Take some photos

Do some cleaning...

Good luck
