fuel return valve/banjo bolt interchangeability

I noticed there are 3 separate part numbers for new valves! The one listed for my 190D OM601.911 is MB# 6010700146.

But what I really want to know is can I use the bolt from a W126/W124 that had the serviceable type of valve in my car?

Thanks,
Taylor

I think what you want to know is if a fuel pressure return bolt from a OM617/ 616 will fit your 190D. The OM617 takes a 12 mm (i.d.) washer and a 17 mm wrench. If the 190D is the same, then it should fit. I don't think the thread pitch on the bolt would be different.

It definitely fits.

The question is: what pressure does it maintain? I have yet to find a fuel pressure suggestion from MB for the 601.

I seriously doubt its so different that it will cause any starvation / damage. At worst, you might see a performance drop, but I doubt that also.

1. get the Number off the Service Tag on your I.P.

then call these guys:

Bosch Diesel Service Center Locations
1 BECS Pacific Ltd.
2825 Pellissier Place
Whittier, CA 90601
USA
Phone: 562-908-6890
Fax: 562-692-5404
Factory Trained For: A, MW, P, P7, P8, VE, VE-E, VE-M, EDC, CRIN, VR, H, CP3, TICS, RED-III, RED-IV, SPGH, VE-E, DM, CR, DVR

They'll be able to tell you what the Return Fuel Pressure Relief Valve PSI should be.

That MB part # 601 070 01 46 is valid for all OM 601,602,603 engines according to the allegedly infallible EPC. It's about $59.00 USD Retail.

The Pictogram is of a Non-Bosch replacement Fuel Return Valve.
M12 X1.5 twist "Banjo Bolt"
It is Non Serviceable!
(LOGICAL assumption would be the O.E. Mercedes Part is Non-Serviceable ALSO!)
0.5 Bar is about 7 PSI
1.0 Bar is About 15 PSI

Mercedes part # 601 070 01 46
Bosch part #1 469 990 351

Friendly, not so Local, Bosch Diesel Service Center Says:
Valve OBSOLETED by Robert Bosch Gmbh August 2002

Suggestion from him: ("If it were Mine")
VE type Pumps have the same Fuel Pressure AND their
overflow valve(s) are simply a Orifice (Venturi) WITH
a Teenie ,Tiny screen filter...

Bosch part# 1 463 456 303

So, the only draw back to substituting the VE overflow
for the M type would be NO Bio"D" above 20% AND
Certainly No WVO. (Trash in the fuel would clog the
tiny screen.)

On the positive side the VE type Overflow Valve is
only $15.00 USD (When ordered as Bosch part# from Bosch)

On Bosch VE Fuel Injection Pumps the Fuel Supply/Lift Pump has a Piston and Spring Pressure Control Valve to control the pressure of the Lift Pump.
On Mercedes the Fuel Pressure Relief/Overflow Valve determines the Pressure of the Lift Pump.

So changing the Fuel Pressure Relief/Over Flow valve may change the Lift Pump Pressure.

I thought the Mercedes lift pump puts out pressure depending on rpm (highe rpm = highe pressure). It does not regulate fuel pressure. The fuel pressure relif valve regulates injection pump internal fuel pressure.

Do all VE pump have an orifice type FPRV? It wouldn't regulate as well as a ball/ spring type since vicosity differences in summer vs winter (even on diesel) will affect fuel pressure. A lot of VW with VE pumps run alternative fuel such as bio and wvo and I do not recall reading the VE pumps having problems with the FPRV.

Yes the Spring Loaded FPR Valve does a better job on OM60X.XXX

BUT,
If they're not available (Or you can't afford one) the VE type will work.

I've also seen a FPR valve that's used on one of the Cummins that would
fulfill the PSI and bolt Size requirements.

Pictogram is from (Oliver) the Non-Serviceable type Mercedes FPR.

Trace the Mercedes Circuit and see what hold the pressure. (There is no Pressure Relief Valve inside of the Fuel Supply/Lift Pump.)

The Mercedes has lower pressure at lower rpms and higer pressure up to a point at higher rpms but so does the VE Pump. On both at certain point no matter how high the rpms go you get no higher pressure from the Fuel Suppply/Lift Pump

The VE Pump has its own little Pressure Relief Valve somewhat like your Oil Pump has.
