240D or 300TE?
Looking for a car to "flip". I dunno what would be more desirable to buyers??
'81 240D auto or '88 300TE Both have plenty of issues. The 240 would cost a little more than the TE. The 240 looks like it would take a little less money to get to market. When all said and done, both would be around 180k miles and in good condition.

I'd flip the 240D, I think it has better roof structure.

Easier to flip a 240D. You can avail of key selling points like 500K mile engine and 50 mpg. Not as plausible in a 300TE.
Seriously, make sure the 300TE has good SLS. Or do you have a stash of struts and spheres and leveling valves and lines to fix it for cheap? Sixto 87 300D |

The TE looks like someone has lived out of it. But with that said, it drove, stopped and rode very nice. Was nice to drive a 103 that starts in first gear. It does smoke, so it needs valve guide seals. No evidence of head gasket issues. It also has the most rust I have ever seen on a 124. But it's not as bad as the rust on my TD I am parting. I think it can be fixed, well enough. My brother can do the detailing work.... seriously, it looks like someone has lived in it.

Pulled my first SLS struts today. Went easier than I thought.
